Clergy Members Criticize Court Ruling
Associated Press, June 26,
2003
Some members of the clergy say a Supreme Court decision
today will have a negative impact on all of society.
The court has struck down a Texas law that bans gay sex
acts, saying it’s a violation of privacy.
The head of the National Clergy Council is calling the
ruling “lamentable.” The Reverend Rob Schenck says the ruling sends a
message that matters of morality don’t matter in the law.
Schenck says he’s hoping Texas lawmakers will bring the
law back—and also rewrite it to include a ban on adultery.
The top lawyer for the National Clergy Council calls the
court’s ruling a “catastrophic move toward the destruction of society.”
