Baldwin Praises Supreme Court Sodomy Ruling

WASHINGTON—Rep. Tammy Baldwin,
the only openly lesbian member of Congress, lauded Thursday’s Supreme Court
decision striking down a Texas ban on gay sex.
“I applaud the court for again recognizing that the
concept of liberty includes a right to privacy,” said Baldwin, D-Madison, in
a statement. “We should all feel safe from unwarranted government intrusions
into our homes.”
Baldwin said the decision goes well beyond sex.
“These types of discriminatory criminal laws have been
used as justification to deny custody and visitation rights to parents as well
as to deny other important freedoms,” she said.
