David Montgomery’s June 27 article on the Supreme Court decision
regarding sodomy laws focused on the opinions of the rapidly shrinking
minority.
Two quasi-religious anti-gay organizations were quoted: Focus on the Family
and the Urban Family Council. The article says that “social conservatives
and religious organizations assailed the ruling.”
However, an amicus brief on behalf of the plaintiffs was filed by the
Alliance of Baptists; the American Friends Service Committee; the Commission
on Social Action of Reform Judaism; Bishop Frank T. Griswold 3d, presiding
bishop of the Episcopal Church; the Methodist Federation for Social Action;
the General Synod of the United Church of Christ; the Unitarian Universalist
Association, and 22 other religious organizations.
Neither we nor any of the religious organizations we represent are
assailing this ruling.
