Phyllicia Daria

Phyllicia Daria began her transition in late 2009, after arriving in Hillsboro from Albuquerque, New Mexico.

Phyllicia DariaPhyllicia works tirelessly for community and trans equality. She has actively volunteered in numerous ways. Since arriving in Portland in 2011, she has volunteered at the Q Center reception desk, and on other projects and committees, including the Community Engagement Team during the center’s 2015 upheaval and reorganization.

Phyllicia has volunteered at feminist bookstore and community center In Other Words, worked with Greater Portland Trans Unity on the annual Trans Pride March and other events, and became a Sister of Perpetual Indulgence, where she is currently holds the status of Emeritus Sister Ann R. Kissed.

One of Phyllicia’s favorite ongoing projects is Pathfinders. Pathfinders, is a cooperative, intergenerational project where members of Q Center’s senior program work with students in local middle school QSAs (Queer Straight Alliance) as mentors. Pathfinders and students meet several times throughout the school year to share personal histories, answer questions, and deepen their understanding of queer history and of each other.
In 2018, Phyllicia was a founding member of Portland Pride Collective, a group of QTPOC (queer and trans people of color) and trans organizations that came together to share space, information, and resources at the Portland Pride Festival.

Phyllicia has been a core leader in building ties and collaboration across the local trans community, and advocating for trans people across the region. She currently resides near the Q Center in North Portland, with her dog, Darby. She is actively involved in queer and left activist circles, as her physical and mental health permit.
