U.K. to Legalize Gay Sex in Its Territories
Advocate,
November 15, 2000
The British government is expected to soon issue an order that will legalize consensual
gay sex between adults in the territories of Anguilla, the British Virgin Islands, the
Cayman Islands, Montserrat, and the Turks and Caicos Islands, The [London] Independent
reports. British officials have encouraged territory officials for more than a year to
pass their own laws legalizing same-sex sexual relations. Baroness Scotland, the foreign
office minister responsible, said that because none of the overseas territories has taken
the action requested, the United Kingdom will impose its own law before Christmas.
