Romania to Legalize Gay Sex to Show its Tolerance to EU

BBC Monitoring, September 22, 2000

BUCHAREST — (BBC Monitoring) Text of report by Radio Timisoara.

The state secretariat for religious affairs will present to parliament submissions and analyses received from representatives of various religious denominations on the issue of Article 200 of the Criminal Code.

According to Nicolae Bruza [phonetic], secretary of state for religious affairs, the amendment of the article, which treats homosexuality in accordance with European norms, would be a good move only to the extent that it would demonstrate the country’s tolerance. Admission to the EU, the secretary of state said, depended on much more important issues than this, such as for example, on economic issues.

Hungarian churches in Romania have sent no submission concerning Article 200.
