Romania to Repeal Sodomy Law

The Advocate, September 26, 2000

Romania is preparing to repeal its sodomy law in order that it may join the European Union, the BBC monitoring service reports. The state secretariat for religious affairs is planning to submit analyses to Parliament backing the repeal of Article 200 of the criminal code, which criminalizes gay sex. Members of the European Union are expected to conform to human rights standards set forth by the E.U., which includes gay rights protections.
