Sodomy Charges Revised in Malaysia Ministers Case
The Advocate,
June 12-14, 1999
Prosecutors have revised the sodomy charges filed against former Malaysian deputy prime
minister Anwar Ibrahim in an apparent attempt to strengthen their case, the New Straits
Times reports. Anwar is charged with sodomizing a former driver of his wifes, an
allegation that Anwar insists was trumped up on political grounds by his political foes to
embarrass him. On Thursday his lawyers sought to have the charges dismissed on the grounds
that the prosecutors were "highly unprofessional."
