Paris March Planned to Support Egyptian Gays
Gay.com U.K., 23 November 2001
A march is due to take place in Paris this weekend in support of 23
Egyptian men sentenced to hard labour for their alleged sexuality.
The 23 men were among 52 arrested at a boat part on the Nile earlier this
year and accused of being homosexual. They were tried in a military court in
Cairo and have to right to appeal.
French musician Jean Michel Jarre has said he will put together an
international petition of artists and intellectuals in protest at the men’s
sentencing.
The French government has already said that it is carefully monitoring the
situation.
