Re the Aug. 13 letter Sodom and Gomorrah: It’s time to
put the anti-gay myth to rest. The Bible specifically declares the cause of
the destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah: “Behold, this was the iniquity of thy
sister Sodom: pride, fullness of bread and abundance of idleness was in her,
neither did she strengthen the hand of the poor and needy; and they were
haughty, and committed abomination before Me. Therefore I took them away as I
saw good [fit],” Ezekiel 16:49-50. “Even as Sodom and Gomorrah, and the
cities about them in like manner, giving themselves over to fornication and
going after strange flesh, are set forth as an example, suffering the
vengeance of eternal fire,” Jude 1:7.
I don’t see how anyone can read homosexuality into any
of that. Those who would interpret these verses to mean that people of Sodom
and Gomorrah were all destroyed for being homosexual have created a doctrine
based on their own bias and fears. There were five cities destroyed, not just
Sodom and Gomorrah. I just don’t believe that five kingdoms were populated
by nothing but homosexuals. My brothers and sisters of faith must stop
perverting the Bible to defend their personal prejudices.
